ABOUT
OVDA Studio is an architecture practice based in Muloobinba (Newcastle), New South Wales. We create buildings that are crafted, site specific, sustainable & timeless.
We are recognised for our private houses, however the practice has worked across a range of community, civic & commercial project types.
Our projects are approached as a collaboration - we seek to understand how our clients operate, how they’d like to operate, and then find an architectural response that meets their wish list and reaches beyond it.
Sustainability is built into each design by incorporating the principles of solar passive design from the outset - it’s never an afterthought. As a result our buildings feel more comfortable to inhabit, and are more affordable to operate. They’re filled with the right kind of natural light, catch the breeze and provide a sunny place to sit on winter mornings.
Context is our inspiration - every site tells a different story, whether it’s a compact inner city block, a steep slope in the suburbs, dense bush land or the wildest coastline. We work hard to understand the site and its surroundings and draw this into our design process.
OVDA Studio respectfully acknowledges that we operate on the traditional country of the Awabakal and Worimi peoples. Our studio is located on Beaumont St, known to the Awabakal people as Ahwar-tar Buloolba ‘flat it is, Wallaby Place’ - an area that consisted of sand flats covered in tea tree scrub which provided an abundance of wildlife for hunting.
We recognise and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs & continuing relationship with the land, and that they are the proud survivors of more than two hundred years of dispossession.
We pay our respects to elders past and present.
